When taking an exam, SEB settings are saved directly on a device rather than being transmitted to a central server. However, some data that could be considered personal such as device type/name/OS version/user name/local network host name could still be contained within SEB log files on that device.
The SEB Browser Exam Key hash code string is generated on the client and copied over to Moodle for authentication of SEB versions/settings connected with that version/settings. You have the option of not including its hash, thus eliminating having to generate and copy different Browser Exam Keys for each Moodle quiz.
By communicating the exam settings password directly and only during an examination hall session (so they are unable to communicate during their exams), blocking notifications, FaceTime/voice calls and screen capture on student devices is possible.
Browser contains settings related to the internal SEB web browser; Exam handles connection with exam systems and their specific settings; Security contains detail settings about how SEB Protects Security-relevant features of its system.
Assure that the quiz can only be taken using SEB and display an error message if someone attempts to use another web browser to open it. Combine a request header check (using an unique hash key) with compatible exam systems in order to confirm that only legitimate SEB configurations are being used during exams.
Changes to SEB settings (such as using a different browser user agent) by students during an exam could pose significant Security Risks, especially on student devices that are unmanaged (BYOD). Consider issuing an exclusive settings password only prior to starting an exam and to exam supporters (e.g. proctors/invigilators in an exam hall) prior to commencing so that no changes occur during it.
To increase the security of this method, you can encrypt the SEB config file with a secure identity (such as an X.509 certificate + key), stored on each exam computer’s Certificate Store or macOS/iOS Keychain, making it even harder to decrypt and uncover exam URL.

Enabling this option will ensure that any browser cache for the current session will be deleted on reconfiguring or terminating of SEB, making this option useful in environments with tools that automatically shutdown or reboot computers (like university computer rooms and schools).
SEB can be used on both unmanaged laptops in a Bring Your Own Device environment (BYOD), as well as managed computers, enabling secure Exams Experts in both cases by locking the browser into kiosk mode, thus preventing students from switching apps or quitting too soon during an exam.
Private Clipboard ensures that cut, copy and paste functions only work within the SEB browser window, thus preventing tools from running in the background or cloud clipboard features from being misused during exams for cheating purposes.
Your target URL can be set when SEB browser is closed by pressing Back to Start button or link, with options to display or not display this address in browser windows title. An administrator password may also be set, which is required in order to open a config file for editing in config tool (to prevent people from preemptively accessing and inspecting settings before an exam). Please note this feature only works if your exam system requires an authentication plugin (currently Moodle, ILIAS and OpenOlat); in which case the Exam Key hash code string must be copied into quiz settings of respective system and copied directly into quiz settings of these systems in order for any testing system to work effectively.
